The good news: The left-hander extended his phenomenal scoreless innings streak to 35 2/3 in Daytona’s 8-1 victory on Tuesday.
The bad news: Papelbon only threw three innings and one pitch. He was taken out after the first pitch of the fourth with an apparent blister, according to the Daytona Cubs’ Web site.
It was a good sign that Daytona was even able to complete a game on Tuesday. Due to Tropical Storm Fay, the Cubs had only played one game in the previous seven days.
Daytona finishes its regular season this weekend, including doubleheaders on Wednesday and Friday. The club has already clinched a playoff spot in the Florida State League.
Papelbon is the brother of Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon.
