Kilaing them softly in Omaha

Well, Kila isn’t exactly doing it softly. The Royals’ decision to promote Kila Kaaihue from Double-A Northwest Arkansas is looking like a solid one. In his first week with the team, Kaaihue has two home runs and five RBI’s, and is hitting .385.

“It’s just fun man,” Kaaihue said. “It’s fun when things are going good.”

It can’t get a whole lot better for the O-Royals at first base right now. Kaaihue plays that position, along with hard-hitting Ryan Shealy. Shealy is hitting .285 for the season with 14 home runs and 45 RBI’s. Those two are switching playing at first base and playing designated hitter. And just in case one or both of them needs a rest, Omaha has Mike Stodolka. Stodolka, who plays about anywhere including outfield and first base, has lifted his average up to .290.

Royals fans may also want to note that Jimmy Gobble, who went on the disabled list last week after giving up 10 runs in one inning, will start for Omaha on Saturday. It will be his first appearance since going on the DL.
